I was still a little child when I started dreaming of "Majestic Niagara". Back then this dream seemed impossible, but somehow I knew that one day I would go to America. When I was in high school I first heard about student summer jobs from the stories of acquaintances and friends, and then I realized that the Work and Travel program was my chance and I had to take it.
I went in the second year of my studies, with my roommate, to the USA, where many positive emotions and unforgettable moments awaited us in the small resort town of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
I worked and lived in a hotel just a few meters from the ocean, and my colleagues were Americans and students from Bulgaria, also participants in the Work and Travel USA program. I found a second job even before I started working at my first one, where I met people of different cultures, nationalities and religions – Jews, Brazilians, Romanians and many others. Although everything went well during the first month, I kept telling my colleagues that I would never come back to America again. But never say "NEVER".
To my delight, I managed to go a second time to the land of "unlimited opportunities". People usually say that the first year is the best, unrepeatable. I thought so too, but after my second time in the USA, I can now say that it isn't true. My second summer was no less exciting and unforgettable. When I returned to Rehoboth Beach for the second time, it was as if time had stood still, waiting for me to do the things I hadn't been able to do in the first year.
Most of my days were spent working; every evening I got together with my new friends – we went out to bars, ran or talked until morning. On our few days off we tried to do different things – we toured nearby towns, worked on our tans at the beach or shopped at the outlets for hours.
The last month of the student summer job is the most anticipated, because that's the time for trips. We managed to visit Washington, New York, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and, of course, Niagara Falls. It's hard for me to describe or compare each of these places, since the true spirit of these incredible places can only be felt if you go and see them for yourself. It's funny how the whole time, even now, everything seems so unreal and unattainable to me, almost like a movie. But it was my movie, through which I fulfilled one of my dreams.
In conclusion, I can say that my student summer job was work, parties, shopping, beaches and lots of new friends with whom I lived unforgettable moments and visited incredible places. For me this is the best way for a student to spend the summer, not only because of the new places you'll visit, but also because I believe it's an adventure that must be lived and will never be forgotten.
