York St John University

York St John University gained university status only in 2006, although it was founded as far back as 1841 as a church college for training teachers. It is a small university with just over 6,000 students from 60 countries. It has partnerships with many institutions around the world and offers various Erasmus opportunities without extending the length of study. Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF) rated 30% of its research as world-leading and internationally excellent. The university specializes in teacher training courses, and its physiotherapy, design and occupational therapy programs are among the best in the country. It also provides expert advice to organizations in business management, therapy, design, education, healthcare, linguistics, literature, psychology, music and theology. 92% of graduates start work or continue their studies within 6 months of graduation, and 75% of them hold professional or managerial positions. York St John University ranks 99th in the UK, yet it offers the high-quality education characteristic of British universities.

York is a small, quiet and safe city with an exceptionally rich history and cultural heritage. It is a popular tourist destination offering many historic sights, the most famous of which are York Minster, the defensive walls around the city, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum and Clifford's Tower. The city used to be a center for manufacturing railway equipment and confectionery, but today its main source of income is tourism.
