Aberystwyth University

Aberystwyth University, founded in 1872, is the first university in Wales. Aberystwyth is a seaside resort on the west coast of Wales and a university town with about 7,000 students. It offers not only all the advantages of a city but also the coziness of a smaller town.

Today the university has over 7,000 registered students, including more than 1,100 PhD students in seventeen academic departments. The institution is renowned for high-quality teaching and outstanding research achievements. The university offers courses ranging from computer science to drama and theater studies. Students have access to the University Library and computer facilities. There are around 1,000 computers in 31 different locations. Computer rooms are located across the university and in the student residence halls.

The United Kingdom

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a political union made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The UK is still a major political and economic power, a member of the G8 with the fifth-largest economy in the world and the second-largest in Europe. The colonial history of the United Kingdom means that it has been subject to many foreign influences and inflows of people, which has created the multicultural society that exists today.

Funding

In addition to savings, help from family and relatives, and part-time work, studies can be funded through a student loan. Students from the European Union can apply for a student loan that covers tuition fees. The good news is that repayment does not have to start immediately after graduation, but only once the repayment threshold is reached. This means that repayment begins when the student has completed the course and started working, but only if they earn more than the relevant repayment threshold for the country in which they live.

Living Costs

  • Accommodation in university residence halls ranges between £2,500 and £3,355 per year. An acceptance fee of £100 is required to reserve the applicant's place in the residence hall;
  • Living costs are around £7,200 per year;
  • The university offers many different scholarships. You can also apply for a student loan.

Accommodation:

Aberystwyth guarantees a place in a residence hall for all first-year students. The university has recently invested heavily in this accommodation and is able to offer an attractive and safe living environment. In addition, all students can take advantage of extra benefits.

There are 2 types of residence halls - self-catered and catered (1 meal per day). The annual cost of a self-catered single room is between £2,650 and £3,470, and with meals included between £3,110 and £3,685. The annual cost of a shared double room is £2,485, and with meals provided between £2,710 and £3,210.

Work:

International students enrolled in a course longer than 6 months may work up to 20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during vacations.
