The Story of a Student Summer Job, or What I Experienced Afterwards

To be honest, I never dreamed of seeing America.

I dreamed of something else – of touring the golden old cities of Europe and touching the past. I thought a student summer job couldn't help me with this ambition, but back then I didn't yet know how wrong I was.

I went on the Work and Travel program in 2012, almost against my will, so that I could be with my best friends. There were 6 of us, and we had no idea what was ahead of us.

I won't tell you where I worked or what I did – I'll just say it wasn't easy.

In the blink of an eye our summer job was over, and then came the time to take stock: I had saved up money and a strong desire to travel. I had met people from England, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Russia and France, and I was welcome to visit every one of them. Some were in America on an internship, others on H2B visas, and others, like me, on a student summer job. I toured New York and saw Niagara, but the real adventure began when I took a trip to 5 countries to visit my new friends from the Work and Travel program. To this day I keep in touch with them – I'm even expecting a Frenchman in Sofia in a month. My heart is filled with love not for America, but for what it gave me the chance to experience, even beyond its borders.
