Summer 2022 on Martha's Vineyard

My decision to go on a student summer job in the USA is undoubtedly the best decision of my life so far. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted this to happen to me, but I didn't expect my experience there to be so significant and enriching. I left without fear and with a positive attitude, which certainly helped me deal with every challenge.

I worked at the harbor in Edgartown – one of the most visited towns on the island – at the Ice Cream and Candy Bazaar, which brought me enormous pleasure. There is nothing better than going to work eagerly and meeting different colorful personalities every day. That's how I learned that Americans are warm and friendly people who are open to foreigners and ready to help. I made valuable friendships with people from all over the world – Romania, Latvia, Taiwan and, of course, the USA. In my free time I never missed a chance to visit the beautiful beaches and enjoy the breathtaking views that Martha's Vineyard offers. The island perfectly combines quiet corners with plenty of entertainment options, so I guarantee you won't be bored there.

Of course, there were difficulties too, and not everything worked out the first time, but that only helped me become more independent and responsible, and I am proud of what I achieved and learned.

I set aside the last 2 weeks of my summer job for a trip around the country. I visited some of the most famous destinations, such as New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Santa Monica. Each of these places has its own unique spirit and an impressive feel that truly leaves a lasting mark on you.

For me, Work and Travel in the USA was an experience unlike any other. My advice to anyone hesitating about whether to embark on this adventure is: Sign up now and go for it! Whatever you face during your summer job will be temporary, and before you know it, it will be time to go home. You have nothing to lose, so stay positive, enjoy every moment and visit the places you've always dreamed of. It's much more beautiful than in the pictures!
