What to Pack in Your Carry-On?

Travel essentials for the Work and Travel program

  1. Make a list of the things you need, as well as one of what you will carry in your hand luggage.
  2. Documents! It is very important, in all the hustle and bustle around your departure, not to forget important documents such as your passport and work permit, SSN, etc.
  3. Medicines – it's a good idea to carry the most essential ones in your hand luggage as well.
  4. A sleep mask and/or a travel pillow will serve you very well on long flights. If you can fall asleep, time passes relatively faster.
  5. Take something to keep yourself entertained – a magazine, a book, download a movie on your phone, etc.
  6. If you have a power bank, take it, just in case.
  7. It's advisable to take face/hand cream and lip balm, because the air on planes dehydrates the skin.
  8. A toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste, wet wipes, antibacterial gel – you will most likely feel the need to freshen up.
  9. If you can wear glasses instead of contact lenses, do so – it's more hygienic.
  10. Travel in comfortable shoes that are easy to take off when going through security and won't pinch your feet.
  11. Dress appropriately and carry a jacket in your hand luggage.
  12. You can take an extra pair of warm socks – it often gets cold on the plane.
  13. A pen and paper – in case a good idea comes to you out of boredom, or you just want to write down something so you don't forget to do it.
  14. Drink plenty of water – flights dehydrate the body; this way you will feel better when you land and won't feel so jet-lagged.
