West Yarmouth, Cape Cod – What to Do and Interesting Facts

West Yarmouth is located in the western part of the town of Yarmouth – I think that's clear to everyone from the name itself. What's more important to know is that the neighboring town of Hyannis is only 20 minutes away, and that's by bike. You can rent a bike or ask your employer to provide one. Here you can see where you can rent a bike.

The climate – what do you think it's like?

You're going in the summer and you want warm weather, right?

You'll get it! 25 °C is the average temperature in the summer months. You can pack your swimsuits, sunscreen and everything else you need for a nice day at the beach – on your days off, of course.

What will I do after work?

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions. As someone who has been on a summer work program, I can advise you: do some research beforehand, know where you're going and what's around, not so that you give up if there's no nightclub, but so that you have the right mindset that this won't be the biggest place in the world (I mean any typical summer work destination).

As for West Yarmouth, Trip Advisor is an app/website where you can find a lot of useful information, but don't trust everything written there 100%.

Still, you can check out the places you might find interesting to visit during your work period.

We at NGB Consulting would recommend:

  • Mayflower Beach – one of the best beaches, with a wonderful view of the sunset and sunrise. If you're an amateur photographer or want to try out the drone you brought along – this is the place. There are other enchanting beaches too, of course.
  • Parkers River Beach – besides being another good beach destination, it has weekly concerts. Dig around for the schedule and the type of music they play. It's a real cultural experience.
  • MALL – Located in Hyannis. Looking for a Victoria's Secret store? Girls, you'll find one there ;)
  • Water Park – Cape Cod Water Park/Cape Cod Inflatable Park – some of you may even work there; for the rest it might be a more interesting place to visit.
  • Great Marsh Kayak Tours – if you've never been in a kayak, why not give it a try – more ideas for your days off.
  • Race Point Lighthouse – A lighthouse that offers beautiful views and lets you immerse yourself in the history of the peninsula. After all, it's a cultural program, right?
  • Woods Hole Science Aquarium – free admission; if you'd like to explore Martha's Vineyard, it's on your way to the ferry.
  • For museum lovers – there are some of those too, the Pirate Museum for example; you can look up the others at the link above.

I hope this short article will be interesting and useful for you during your Work and Travel program!
