With the change in the form of education, pupils and students are switching to distance learning. Here are a few tips that will help you stay focused and motivated to study.
- It is important to ensure a strong internet connection so that classes/lectures run successfully. – back up your documents - Dropbox, Google Docs;
- Define your study space – It is important to set aside a quiet and peaceful space where there is nothing to distract us. It is important that our places for studying, eating and fun are different, so that our brain is not confused about what we are doing at the moment.
- Make it a habit – Habit is one of the key factors for successful distance learning. For example, we know that after breakfast we start studying for 3 hours, followed by lunch and a few more hours of study.
- Make a to-do list, including your homework and the deadlines for handing it in, books/textbooks to read, and practicing new words (when preparing in a foreign language).
- Limit social media – Having internet access often tempts us to check our profiles. But to be successful and stay focused, hide your Android phone out of sight and use a device you are not logged in on, so that you don't see all the notifications and get tempted to log in.
- Use online resources – there are many apps offering language learning, and universities have online libraries we can take advantage of as well. Kingsway English Center offers free consultations – you can sign up for them on the Facebook page Language Courses and Vacations with NGB.
- Make studying enjoyable – this also applies to full-time education. It is important to get satisfaction from the process, so that in the future we want to come back to it and sit down to study voluntarily.
- Visualize your goals – it will help you get motivated to study. Print out motivational quotes or stick a picture on the wall of your dream university or of the vacation you will take after successfully passing your exams -
- Take breaks – just as there are breaks between classes at school, take a break every hour – drink water/eat a piece of fruit; first and foremost, it is important to be healthy for the learning process to be successful and productive.
- Ask for help! – No matter what form of education you are in, it is important to ask your teacher/professor for support when you are having difficulties. Teachers are there for you, to be your support.
- Create an online group/chat with classmates/fellow students, where you can discuss the course material. – You will see that you are not the only one who doesn't understand a certain assignment, for example. The process of discussion will help you much more than rereading material that is unclear to you.
- Search for information smartly. – Save the links to articles/websites you have come across by chance or think will be useful to you. Save the page as a bookmark in the internet browser you use, under a name that will remind you of its content. Trust only official sources, as well as works by professors/research and international literature. Wikipedia is not among the reliable sources, nor is Pomagalo ;)
We wish you good health and plenty of motivation to study!
