An archipelago of 700 coral islands, 30 of them inhabited – that's how simply the Bahamas can be described, but is it enough?
For many people it is paradise on earth itself, and countless lines have been written in an attempt to capture the beauty of this place. Some say no one can imagine this beauty without having seen it. An endless ocean surrounding islands with the finest white sand meeting the most crystal-clear blue water. The views are often described as if painted by the brush of the finest artists – surreal and magical. The total coastline of all the islands is 2460 km, a stretch covered by impressive vegetation that is home to the most curious animal species.
Here are some of the most popular places in the Bahamas:
Cabbage Beach – perhaps the most famous and most recognizable beach. It's a must for every tourist, perfect for diving, swimming and even spotting world-famous celebrities.
Cable Beach – every local's favorite beach. Located in the capital, Nassau, it offers a long stretch of beach, crystal-clear water and cold cocktails.
Pig Beach/Big Major Cay/ – believe it or not, this is a beach where you can swim with pigs – startling for some, charming for others. And if you're afraid to dive in with them, they'll be happy with a little food from you :))
Pink Sands Beach – two hours from Nassau lie the pink sands of Harbour Island. With more than 50 kilometers of beach, this place captivates everyone with its charm. The pink color has formed over the years from countless broken and ground-up corals.
Ben's cave – in the heart of Lucayan National Park, this cave is one of the few in the world that holds both fresh and salt water. A must for every amateur or professional diver, it offers an unforgettable experience and record-breaking sights listed in the Guinness World Records – stalagmites, stalactites, animals and plants.
Dean's Blue Hole – unlike the most famous blue hole, the one in Belize, the Bahamian one is located right next to the shore of Long Island. Just a few steps from the shore, in water barely knee-deep, you can drop into an impressive 202 meters.
The coral reefs – they'll be all around you – more than 5% of all the world's reefs are found in the Bahamas.
The secluded islands – locals offer stays on the most remote and secluded islands; they'll patiently wait for you on the boat while you spend a few unforgettable days on the most fairytale-like islands, undisturbed by anyone.
And if all this isn't the best ending to any summer work program, what is!
