Before we go
If you plan to visit only Miami Beach, a car is not absolutely necessary.
There are airport transfers to get to the city, as well as taxis.
The Miami Mover (an elevated train) can take you from the airport to Downtown and Brickell. It is a good way to get around if you are visiting those areas and don't want to have a car. If you feel like a real tourist, hop on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus (and boat tour) to explore Miami!
When to visit
Miami boasts nice weather all year round, but watch out for hurricane season, or at least check the forecast before you go. Like most students, we assume you will be traveling during the Travel month, the last one of your Work and Travel program – we can reassure you that this is the cheapest time to visit the city, as there are no big events organized.
What to bring
Miami is a laid-back city, which means you can be as quirky or as casual as you like. A tank top, shorts and flip-flops are the South Beach "uniform". In a trendy restaurant or club, however, you're bound to see designer dresses and high heels. Jeans and a nice shirt are welcome everywhere. Obviously, a swimsuit is a must! And don't forget your sunglasses, because the sun is quite bright.
What to do in Miami
1/ GO TO THE BEACH
You can't visit Miami without seeing the world-famous beaches of South Beach. I'm sure you've seen them on CSI: Miami – or in a Pitbull music video!
2/ OCEAN DRIVE
Stroll down this iconic street with its neon lights and Art Deco buildings. This place is hopping all day and all night.
3/ SOUTH POINT PARK
The southernmost spot in South Beach is a favorite among locals. There is a beautiful park with a walking path that takes you from the ocean to the bay, and if you time it right, you can sit and watch the cruise ships leave the port around 4 to 5 p.m. on weekends.
4/ WYNWOOD
This is perhaps one of the most famous places in Miami for Instagram photos! Wynwood is an artsy, cool neighborhood home to many art galleries and impressive graffiti. The famous Wynwood Walls attract thousands of visitors, both locals and tourists.
These were a few useful tips we can give you if you decide to visit Miami at the end of your Work&Travel experience.
In the article on Top Destinations in the USA, the NGB Consulting team shares a few more places to add to your bucket list for your Work and Travel summer in America.
Good luck!
