How NOT to Learn a Foreign Language?

If you do NOT want to learn 1, 2 or more foreign languages, it is very important to follow the steps below.

  1. Be closed off and do NOT try to start even the most basic conversation. There's no point, since at some point you won't know a word or even several. Bulgarian is such an ancient language – every other nation should speak it.
  1. Be super fixated on the tiniest mistake, because it is simply NOT possible to speak a language and make even one mistake. And last but not least, everyone will laugh at your pronunciation. Bulgarian, being a relatively harsh-sounding language, does NOT help much, and you don't want to feel ignorant, do you?
  2. Do NOT start a conversation in a foreign language that is above your level at all. There's no point, since there will be words/expressions you don't know. Under no circumstances should you ask the speaker to explain the conversation or a specific word/expression in words you understand.
  3. Do NOT practice the new language every day. After your lessons in class, there's no point, because, as we said earlier, you will make a mistake.
  4. Keep watching movies in your native language. Don't try adding subtitles in the new language; stick exclusively to the one you know. Definitely don't look for movies with audio in a foreign language, and do NOT even think about adding subtitles in your native language. No music, books or movies.
  5. Make up excuses. It is absolutely pointless to invest time and energy in learning a language that, in most cases, is spoken in only one country anyway. Good automatic translation apps will soon be widely available in Bulgaria. It will be a waste of time if you make an effort now to learn a foreign language, and this endeavor of yours will be of absolutely no value.
  6. Just give up! You have so many things to do every day – school, work, walks, going out with friends – there's simply no point in giving up any of them to learn a foreign language.
