Alphabet Sea Quest is a sailing expedition around the most beautiful and famous islands off the Italian coast. The program introduces 13- to 17-year-olds to essential sailing skills while they sail along one of the cleanest and calmest Mediterranean coastlines. Students live as a close-knit crew aboard the yachts, learning and practicing sailing skills under the guidance of certified instructors.
The course is run entirely in English (minimum required level B1), from daily sailing instruction to team projects and marine life workshops. Students have the opportunity to practice their newly acquired skills on board. Life on a yacht develops communication and leadership skills, which in turn strengthen social bonds and build independence.
Program and activities:
Students sail the yachts with an experienced sailing instructor and an Alphabet crew member. Every day they gain knowledge that they put into action as they move from island to island – setting the course, rowing, dropping anchor for a swim or mooring in a harbor for the night. During the voyage, students take part in interactive lessons on marine life and history, enriching their knowledge and general culture. At the end of the course, students receive a sailing certificate along with memories to last a lifetime.
Routes:
Starting from the island of Procida, students set off on an incredible adventure, alternating between two different and exciting one-week routes.
- Northern route: The Pontine Islands and the island of Zannone (snorkeling), Ventotene and the discovery of an ancient Roman harbor, Santo Stefano and a visit to the abandoned Bourbon prison.
- Southern route: In and around Capri for a cultural expedition and a visit to the famous Blue Grotto, a cruise along the Amalfi Coast with a stop in Positano, and dinner on Ischia at a genuine Neapolitan pizzeria.
Location and accommodation:
The boats are moored at the Procida yacht club – just a few minutes by ferry from the Bay of Naples. Students live on board the entire time, with a maximum of 8 children per boat sharing double cabins. On board there are tables for outdoor lunches, sunshades and an outdoor shower for rinsing off after swimming.
