Mackenzie School of English is an independent, family-run organization in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Its summer programs are for young people aged 12–17. Accredited by the British Council and a member of English UK and Young Learners English UK, this school is one of only two in Edinburgh offering English as a foreign language. With more than 10 years of experience in the field, its motto is "To build a community where young people are valued and encouraged to achieve more, so that they don't just attend a summer school but take away an unforgettable memory for life."
Lessons are based on topics that interest each young person; teachers get to know every student individually, and the emphasis is on conversation skills through various discussions – creative tasks, preparing and performing role plays, problem solving, storytelling and more.
The activities offered by Mackenzie include team games, visits to cultural sights and various challenges that keep the learning process interesting and fun. Visits to cultural sights come with a variety of questions and photo and video tasks. During 5 of the cultural visits and activities, young people are given iPad minis, which play an important part in the learning.
