The history of Bucksmore dates back to 1979, when Buckswood Grange School, a secondary school, was opened. Later on, summer programs were created for international students wishing to learn English.
The summer language courses quickly became very popular, not only because of the excellent standard of English teaching, but also because of the overall experience offered to participants. The teachers provide highly professional instruction, but they also help students get to know the culture and traditions of the country, support them and even become friends with them during the program. More schools were opened around the country, attended by hundreds of students every year.
With more than 35 years of experience in providing quality education, Bucksmore continues to expand its activities: in addition to summer language programs, it now offers university preparation courses as well as one-to-one home tuition.
The course offers a unique summer experience for children aged 7 to 10, combining quality language tuition with an introduction to the history, culture and traditions of the country. The Bucky Kids summer language camp has no language level requirement – it is suitable for both beginners and more advanced children. Groups average between 8 and 11 children.
The program includes themed language lessons, various group projects and keeping a personal journal throughout the course. Language lessons take place in the mornings, and each one is built around a different theme ("Animal Kingdom", "Superheroes", etc.). The aim is to present the lessons to the children in a fun way. The variety of themes helps capture the students' interest and leads to faster understanding and learning. The projects in this course are group-based and aim to develop team spirit and cooperation among the children, as well as their ability to express themselves in a team – to share opinions, contribute ideas and take the initiative. At the end of each day, every participant writes in their journal about how they spent the day, what they learned and what impressed them. This way a number of skills are practiced: language, writing, artistic and more. By the end of the summer camp, the journal becomes a treasured keepsake for every child.
Each week there are 2 full-day excursions and one half-day excursion to cultural and tourist attractions. One of the main destinations is London, where the children visit some of the most famous sights, such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey and more. Other interesting destinations are Oxford and Brighton. In addition to the trips, the program features various events such as sports tournaments, stage performances, parties, games and much more. The goal is for the children to communicate with each other, developing their social skills and practicing their English in a real-life environment.
